Whilst it is fundamental to understand regulation, standards  and technology it is crucial that each consultant can relay their knowledge in layman terms (no jargon). The client is calling us in to make the complicated simple; we leave them with the understanding of what is planned for delivery!

Maintaining a deep understanding of technologies and how they work. Not always to CCIE level but at least CCNA. A consultant should know how and why certain technologies are deployed and for what reason

It’s not enough to just understand the standards. A consultant must understand why it’s in place and what it means “technically”. What are the solutions?

A minimum ISO27001/2, Cyber Essentials and HMG security principles plus specialisations and clearances.

Able to demonstrate knowledge and thinking. Able to explain how conclusions are reached and how to achieve results.

Ultimately, a consultant is judged by the successful delivery of a project and the satisfaction of their client. This requires a level of discipline around delivery and expectation management with all involved parties.

For ones entire domain; project delivery, client satisfaction, personal targets, training, accreditation, personal health & well-being, work life balance, career progression.

With clients, staff, managers, colleagues, oneself.

Of the quality and levels of ones output; results, deliverables, documentation and presentation.
